Mercedes Ruehl first got our motors running with The Warriors (1979), where she turned a bit part into a memorable turn as a sexy, ass-kicking cop. The 5-foot, 10-inch goddess kept working in New York, primarily as a respected stage actress, and then emerged as a mature beauty as Dean Stockwell’s filthy-mouthed wife in Married to the Mob (1988)–not to mention her work that year as Tom Hanks’s MILF in Big (1988). Mob’s success gave Mercedes–already in her 40s at that point–a chance to be measured as both a leading lady and a sex symbol. The comedy Another You (1991) gave us Mercedes in some black lingerie, and some sexy outfits helped Mercedes win an Oscar for The Fisher King (1991). Rumor has it that the haughty hottie also sizzled in North Shore Fish (1997). Sadly, Mercedes hasn’t landed on Mr. Skin‘s radar since then. Instead, she’s stayed completely covered in movies like Roseanna’s Grave (1997), The Minus Man (1999), Out of the Cold (1999), Spooky House (2002), Zeyda and the Hitman (2004), A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story (2006), Chu and Blossom (2014), and Hustlers (2019) and TV shows like Widows, Psych, Entourage, Law & Order, Life in Pieces, The Mysteries of Laura, 2 Broke Girls, NCIS, Power, and Bull. We can’t speak about her state of undress on stage, so hopefully she got naked in one of her recent theater productions. Perhaps The Vagina Monologues?
